ST. PAUL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
OUR HISTORY
St. The Christian Mission of Tacoma, Washington met on May 3, 1964 at the Olivet Lutheran Church at South 15th and "K" Streets, Tacoma, Washington, at 6:00 p.m. A twenty minute devotion was conducted by Bro. Alma Giles, with scripture by Rev. Raymond Cain. The Rev. Edward L. Horne, Pastor of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Tacoma, his choir and members were invited to fellowship with the group during the organization.
By a unanimous vote, Rev. E. H. Hankerson was elected as the new Pastor. Rev. Horne made a congratulatory statement to Rev. Hankerson and turned the services back into his hands. Rev. Hankerson thanked the Church for the forthcoming following his receipt of the formal request.
The newly elected Pastor then delivered his first message to the congregation from the subject, "The Church in the House", Colossians 4:18. By majority vote, the name of St. Paul Church was selected.
After the death of Rev. Hankerson, the pastoral call was extended to Rev. Percy Gardner. He served faithfully in service until he was called to pastor another congregation. St. Paul then extended the pastoral call to Rev. Mathew McSwain, He served faithfully from 1991 until his untimely death in February 1998.
After a period of mourning, the membership of St. Paul Baptist Church met and extended the pastoral call to Rev. Curtis J. Haynes, an associate minister of St. Paul. He was installed in May of 1998.
Under the leadership of Rev. Haynes, Saint Paul has added new ministries for the work of the Lord!
